Lazy Sunday Instagram Roundup #5

Been loving the countdown on our new Advent calendar!    \\      Lucy thought this box looked comfy.

Lucy's lovely Christmas sweater             \\             Beer and Bacon Chili, in progress

Presents under the tree make it seem so real - soon it will be Christmas!

Been a little quiet on instagram this week, as we've been very busy working and shopping and wrapping and preparing. Not to mention cleaning! Family being spread far and wide amounts to a lot of planning and coordinating for the holidays. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and, even though it doesn't look like it will be a white one, it will still be a really wonderful Christmas.

Loving earmuff weather                     \\          Christmas tree and Christmas tunes at work!

Our idea of a fun night is a glass of wine and a heated Yahtzee tournament :D

I've got a very fancy Christmas party for work today. I probably only get to dress up for real about twice a year, so I am very excited!!

It's All in the Details

I really enjoy decorating the house, giving everything a very personal feel. But since my husband and I have never settled in one place long enough to really devote time to a consistent scheme of decoration, I've only managed to design small little areas. Small as they are, I still love to see these carefully selected details every day because they remind me of different parts of our life together.

Our bedroom has a very definite "ocean" theme...I've decorated it in sea colors with plenty of things to remind us of our honeymoon in Maine, including my Maine glass buoy, our bottle of wedding night wine, and shells from the beach where we were married.

The Maine love carries over to the refrigerator as well!

One of my favorite quotes of all time, from On the Road by Jack Kerouac.

A painting I made a long time ago of a gloomy monster with sweet intentions.

My husband's beautiful post office box and acorn sculpture, along with my handsome beta fish, Tiny Iota!

I am a self-proclaimed M*A*S*H junkie! This is my very modest collection of memorabilia.

The most gorgeous perfume I've ever smelled.

And of course, Lucy couldn't be left out of a post about my favorite parts of my house! She is the sweetest kitty ever. The poor lady has been through a lot. She was found with an abscess on her rear leg that consumed her foot and spread up to her hips, requiring the amputation of the whole leg. Then later she was attacked by dogs and her other rear leg was torn up pretty badly. Most of the inner part of her foot and leg don't grow hair anymore and two of her toes are missing! Despite all that she is sweet, loving, and playful. My best friend!

Catching Up

3.3.11

3.3.11

The black pair of my lovely corduroy 50s pants, from last week. They were great to wear! People seem pretty confused by high-waisted pants. It's kind of funny. :)

3.3.11

The last few days it's been a rainy, chilly mess here. In heavy rain our backyard turns into a swamp. Oh well, it is Louisiana after all!

3.3.11

Today we spent some of our Mardi Gras break with my dad. I really like this vintage sweater. It has great heart details.

The rain has made all the mosquito hawks come out. When you walk through the grass, 15 will fly up in all directions! I know they're harmless but they freak me out with their long bodies and floppy legs. Yuck!

Blue Cheese Steak/Mango Salad

A while ago for dinner, we had steaks along with this delicious mango salad. The recipe came from over at My New Roots, an amazing food and nutrition blog. It was simple and refreshing. Tomorrow I'll be making some of that Nutella-Banana bread I mentioned last post, so I will have that delicious recipe for you soon!

Lazy Klaus

The kitty was so relaxed he didn't even realize it a little later when he stuck his tail in that candle and set it on fire! Haha!

Starting March on a high note

Happy March! I hope this means spring is on its way to my northern friends. I sympathize! I live in warm territory now, but I grew up in the north. :)

The last few days I've been really down. I seem to have periods every now and then when I start to question myself about most everything. I lose a bit of self-confidence and I feel like I don't know who I am. Sounds pretty dramatic, I know. Not feeling well combined with that combined with stress from school projects has equaled a pretty lame last few days, and I was afraid I wouldn't be cheered up very soon. Luckily my brand new high-waisted pants decided to arrive today which was super exciting!

3.1.11

I could not wait to open the box, and I wasn't disappointed!! These are fantastic! Beautiful! Stunning! (I love them, can you tell? :D ) They fit great and have the perfect silhouette. Even better I paid a wonderful price for 3 pair, all in corduroy with silky lining.

3.1.11

They came in the evening so I didn't get any good outfit shots...this is more of a little peek. I tried them on and didn't want to take them off! I was so excited I called my hubby to tell him how awesome they are, knowing he really doesn't care that much either way. Hehe!

3.1.11

Klaus liked them as well. He declared they'd make quite a comfy cat bed.

3.1.11

So here's to a good beginning to March. I'm going to kick back this evening with a chai latte and try to chase the yucky days away.

See you soon!

Chilly Day Filler

Ugh, just as I feared!! Chilly, drizzle-y days are here. Unfortunately they're the kind of days that make me pull on snuggly layers rather than brave the cold in what I prefer to wear. I hate being cold! I'm the kind of girl who will wear her winter coat indoors if it's even a little chilly.

So, instead of an outfit post or something more exciting, a little daydreaming of what's to come.

I got all this great fabric along with the patterns and notions at some local antique stores. I can't wait to make all sorts of things with them. I have a super special mini business venture in mind that I hope materializes like I imagine! The butterick skirt pattern is from the lovely Lauren of Wearing History. Her etsy store is wonderful, and she is so kind and helpful.

I think lots of us are thinking ahead to warm days in spring. I can't wait to break out this lovely plaid day dress. The pastel colors remind me of picnics by the lake.

And of course, I had to introduce my lovely kitty cat, Klaus! He's a lazy lump who is most frequently found buried under my robe or trying to lay on my laptop keyboard.

I have to say I was inspired for this part of the post by the lovely Q of Q's Daydream. She did a fun post about her adorable friend, Patsy Cline. Like Patsy, Klaus isn't so fond of having his picture taken. He simply couldn't be bothered to be enthusiastic.

Q is one of the many ladies who inspired me to get into vintage fashion and start my own blog! I owe many thanks to her. I hope your days are warmer wherever you may be!
