Small Prints and Fun Accents

We finally got some real snow, none of that silly dusting stuff! It was lovely and fell in big fat flakes, just as I like it. It didn't stick around very long because it managed to be just warm enough, but I had great fun while it lasted!

As far as this outfit goes it was really all about the details... small prints and fun accents. Also, I never really got into hats when I had long hair; I always felt like they made my face look strange. Now that I've got short hair though I feel like I can wear all kinds of hats! I love it! I think I'm definitely becoming a hat person.

Lazy Days and Snow!

Sweater \\ Forever 21
Skirt \\ Forever 21
Tights \\ Sock Dreams
Boots \\ Gift

I was thrilled to wake up yesterday and see snow. After three years in Louisiana without a glimpse of one of my favorite things, I've been hoping every day for a big blizzard. Well, I wouldn't call it big or a blizzard, but I'll take whatever I can get! Taking pictures was quite an affair because it was super windy. Big gusts kept coming up and surprising us!

Yesterday also happened to be a pretty slow day for me, which gave me an opportunity to show you a typical lazy day outfit. When I don't have anywhere to go or errands to run I just throw on the comfiest things I own. It probably goes without saying that I love my Super Cat sweater and wear it any time I need to feel cozy.

(Late!) Wednesday Nature Walk :: River's Edge

This week's nature walk I really wanted to spend next to the water. Missing  the ocean but being thousands of miles away means that a shallow river with a sandy bank will have to be a surrogate.

It was balmy and almost warm outside, but portions of the water in the shade of the tall trees were still frozen over. I could dip my toes in the rippling current but also admire the crystal patterns on top of the ice and the branches trapped beneath.

First Winter Chill

Yesterday was the first day that it's really felt like winter is here. There was a frosty chill in the air and my breath came out in those wonderful little clouds. So exciting! This outfit felt perfect for the day...I found this great skirt at a vintage store that was going out of business. It's so perfect and in absolutely amazing shape! The sweater is vintage as well...they seem like they're made for each other.

On a side note, my pixie cut is getting to a state where it's pretty annoying. The length is so in between that it's requiring a lot of upkeep to put it in a decent shape! I'm very tempted to go back to my Jean Seberg length.... it was the easiest length ever!

Style Elements :: Winter Gloves

My most favorite thing about winter is the ability to wear layers upon layers of gloves, scarves, hats, and muffs. I'm the person you see bundled up when it's 50 degrees and probably not cold enough for a scarf simply because I can't wait to wear them! There are a lot of fashionable options for warm hands besides the (tried and true) basic knitted mittens. I absolutely love all of these... hint hint, husband!

All good things begin before they end.

I think when starting something new, it's natural to spend a lot of time trying to decide where to begin. I did that and the only conclusion that I could come to was to jump right in! So here it was, the last warm-ish wintery day (as gray as it is) in Louisiana for a little while. This morning it was frigidly cold and tonight and tomorrow they're predicting ice and snow. My fiance and I ride 3 miles to and from campus each day on our bikes, and it's a nightmare in the chill. The giant oak tree we live under still manages to be grand and beautiful even in the bad weather.

I suppose I'd like this to be a place to do a few separate things. I'd like to share my adventures in sewing (which I'm just beginning), my photography, cooking, and my other projects for school, as well as whatever happens to be on my mind. Documenting all the projects I work on will be good motivation for me to keep plugging along even when I feel overwhelmed.

I'd also like to share my love of vintage style with you. I've followed the wonderful blogs of many lovely ladies for a long time and I always wanted to be a part of the community. So besides all the sharing and adventures, I'd like to make some new friends! I hope it's as fun as I think it's going to be.

And I hope the warm weather comes back soon.
