A Big 2012 Recap!

Well this old year is officially on its way out, but it's definitely a year I don't want to forget. It was one of the best, biggest, most important years of my life! I don't have a whole lot by way of recap since I haven't been blogging for all of 2012, but I thought I could share with you the most important part - our wedding!

My husband and I eloped and spent a week in Maine, the most beautiful place I've ever been and our (hopefully near) future home. Our ceremony was very low key and quick, just the two of us and just the way we wanted.

(Of course we had to get our photo in the adorable Maine moose hats!)

The rest of our time was spent exploring the beautiful scenery Maine has to offer. We only saw the barest fragment, but it only took one glimpse of the sea to know that the coast is where I belong.

This gorgeous image was taken using an infrared filter which photographs outside of the visual light spectrum. My husband is really excellent at taking these sorts of images.

So there it is, the most exciting part of my 2012. I remember it so fondly I can hardly look at these images without a little tear in my eye! I'm so sentimental! I am so excited to look forward to 2013 with the hope that it will find us returning to these places, only this time as part of our home state.

See you soon! (In 2013!) <3

Lazy Sunday Christmas Present Roundup

Instead of an instagram post this Sunday, I thought it would be fun to share what my mom got me for Christmas. With the little I gave her to go on, I have to say she totally nailed it! I thought you would like to check it out as well.

I was so excited when I opened this up. Finally, a wet specimen to start my collection! And he's so handsome too! I love all those curly tentacles, and he has such beautiful spots. I'm hoping that (depending on how fragile he is) I might move him to a fancy jar for permanent display.

I also got these gorgeous butterfly wing necklaces! It really felt like jump-starting two collections at once, since I'm hoping to get started with pinning insects soon. The nice thing about the wings is that they are different on both sides. The red one is the most dramatic. At first I was smitten with the red side, but the more I look at the brown side the more I notice the beautiful subtle detail and color.

My weird and crazy side was very satisfied by these gifts! Hopefully I can grow these cool collections to giant proportions by next Christmas!

See you soon! <3

Pink and Polka Dots

Whew, I'm finally back from Christmas traveling! I love this time of year but I always forget how intense traipsing all over and making sure you get everywhere and see everyone can be! Regardless I had a wonderful time and it was so awesome to be with my family.

Right before we left this fox purse finally arrived in the mail! I'm sure you've seen it all over (I know at least Annika and Adrian have one) but I couldn't resist. I decided to go for mint and I'm glad I did, it's a gorgeous color. I'm happy to be on the bandwagon, this purse is a great size and seems like pretty sturdy material. I'm very picky when it comes to bags.

Back in the swing of things around here, I can't wait to show you some of my favorite Christmas gifts...My mom really nailed it this year and got me some things I think you're going to love - weird things! Yay!

See you soon! <3

4 \\ Christmas cookies!

5 \\ My healthy dinner yesterday before work... cookies and gummy worms!
6 \\ My husband gave me this awesome tiger hat as an early present! It's so kitschy and silly but I love it.

I have a massive feast, Christmas movie fest, and present extravaganza planned for us. I hope it will be the start of a wonderful tradition! I've also been overdosing on Christmas music lately. I'm terribly, terribly excited.

Lazy Days and Snow!

Sweater \\ Forever 21
Skirt \\ Forever 21
Tights \\ Sock Dreams
Boots \\ Gift

I was thrilled to wake up yesterday and see snow. After three years in Louisiana without a glimpse of one of my favorite things, I've been hoping every day for a big blizzard. Well, I wouldn't call it big or a blizzard, but I'll take whatever I can get! Taking pictures was quite an affair because it was super windy. Big gusts kept coming up and surprising us!

Yesterday also happened to be a pretty slow day for me, which gave me an opportunity to show you a typical lazy day outfit. When I don't have anywhere to go or errands to run I just throw on the comfiest things I own. It probably goes without saying that I love my Super Cat sweater and wear it any time I need to feel cozy.

White Tail

I apologize for the abundance of nature posts lately... I suppose that was bound to happen. I had hoped Wednesday nature walk would be a success, but I had no idea it would turn into I-Can't-Wait-Until-Wednesday-For-Another nature walk! That actually makes me really happy though, it's been wonderful to up the activeness of our lifestyle. Despite that, I'm definitely working on bringing some variety back to the posts here.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to check out a new set of paths when we traveled a bit for family Christmas. It turned out to be very lovely, despite the chilly weather. We even had a totally awesome surprise! Just as we rounded the corner, not paying any attention at all, we stumbled across some forest denizens!

Six beautiful deer in all, and my husband managed to capture some really lovely photos of them! They were barely scared of us, just continued right on munching on some grass.

In exciting news, we're having some snow here today! It's very blustery right now, but I can't wait until it calms down so I can go out and take some photos.

See you soon! <3

The Curious and Quirky Christmas Wishlist

Christmas is growing ever nearer and even though all my presents are purchased and it might be just a little bit too late, I still wanted to compile a weird and wonderful wishlist to share with you! I hope my strange taste in collectibles doesn't deter you too much!

1 \\ Stonehill Design has a beautiful collection of apothecary jars and medical tools, but this set of pill bottles really struck my eye. I'd love to put the bottles on display!
2 \\ Love these animal anatomy pillows from Myrte Musee! I couldn't choose just one!

3 \\ These make your own butterfly terrarium kits are amazing. As someone just getting into butterfly collecting, this would be a beautiful way to start out before transitioning into preserving my own specimens! Find them at The Amateur Naturalist
4 \\ If I'm going to have taxidermy, I'd definitely want it to be an animal as interesting as the bat. Seriously fascinating creatures. From bonejewelry.

5 \\ This may seem a little weird, but I would love to have this 1800s hair locket! This type of piece and Victorian hair art in general are quite interesting. Wolf House Vintage.
6 \\ An insect preserved in amber from baltcoast. Combines two of my interests - minerals and insect specimens!

I hope everyone is finishing up their Christmas shopping without feeling too stressed about it...I waited a bit too long this year to get everything I needed online, so I had to make a last-minute-desperation shopping trip! Everything turned out okay though and I'm all done. Now all that's left is to enjoy the remainder of the season!!

River Fox

Skirt (Dress) \\ Sifted Cocoa Dress, Modcloth
Sweater \\ Old Navy
Tights \\ Target
Boots \\ Pink Basis
Necklace \\ Forever 21

Orange was a color I was a little bit  afraid of, so I was glad when I was able to get this dress from Modcloth on sale. It gave me a chance to experiment with orange in a way that felt kind of comfortable. When I stumbled upon this fox sweater, I knew the orange was meant to be! Now I look forward to trying it out more, it's very cozy and fun.

Lazy Sunday Instagram Roundup #5

Been loving the countdown on our new Advent calendar!    \\      Lucy thought this box looked comfy.

Lucy's lovely Christmas sweater             \\             Beer and Bacon Chili, in progress

Presents under the tree make it seem so real - soon it will be Christmas!

Been a little quiet on instagram this week, as we've been very busy working and shopping and wrapping and preparing. Not to mention cleaning! Family being spread far and wide amounts to a lot of planning and coordinating for the holidays. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and, even though it doesn't look like it will be a white one, it will still be a really wonderful Christmas.
